Why does my team booking require a credit card?
When booking a courtesy hotel block through Tournkey for your group or team, you will be asked to provide a credit card. While it may feel like a payment step, it’s actually a standard requirement to secure your room block with the hotel—and your card will not be charged by Tournkey at this stage.
🏨 Why a Card Is Required
Hotels require a credit card to:
-
Hold a courtesy block on your team’s behalf
-
Ensure rooms are reserved and not released to the public
-
Meet standard industry policies for group commitments
Providing a card confirms your intent to reserve space for your group, but does not create a financial charge from Tournkey or the hotel.
💳 Will My Card Be Charged?
No. Your credit card is used only to secure the block. It is not charged, nor is any deposit collected at the group block stage.
Each individual guest will enter their own credit card when claiming a room within the block and will become responsible for their own charges, deposits, and any incidental fees upon check-in.
👥 How the Process Works
-
Group Manager Adds Card: When you submit your block request, your credit card holds the space temporarily so your team has access to rooms.
-
Individuals Claim Rooms: Team members will receive booking links to choose rooms and enter their own credit card information.
-
Responsibility Transfers: The financial responsibility moves to each guest once they book within the block.
🔐 Is My Information Secure?
Yes. Tournkey uses encrypted technology to process and store any information submitted. Your credit card is not shared beyond what is required to complete the courtesy hold with the hotel provider.
